A Recipient of Generosity

A Recipient of Generosity

Gunther Henry Schmitt was a man that had lots to be thankful for. When asked who taught him to be generous, he responded, "No one. I was the recipient of generosity."

There is a lot that could be said about Gunther's life, the fact that he grew up in Indonesia, escaped to China during WWII, received assistance from several Mennonite church agencies, came to California and developed a successful career as a radiologist, but in death, he made his final statement of generosity. Gunther left instructions with MB Foundation, that upon his death he wanted his estate to "strengthen the Mennonite Brethren."

Gunther's final act of generosity was to leave his entire estate through his will and trust for charitable purposes. As a result, MB Foundation has the privilege of stewarding a $2.2M endowment for the benefit of five MB ministries.
